With the development of globalization, cross-cultural communication has become more and more important. Under different cultural backgrounds, interpersonal relationships vary greatly. The differences in interpersonal relationship have an important influence on the communication between Chinese and American people. Exploring the differences of interpersonal relationship between Chinese and Americans is of great significance for guiding people to better cross-cultural communication. By the comparative analysis of the interpersonal relationship between Chinese and Americans from three aspects: family relationship, friendship and teacher-student relationship, this paper explores the specific manifestation of differences and the causes behind them, and further puts forward reasonable solutions to the promotion of the cross-cultural communication between the two peoples.

American writer Ernest Hemingway’s short story The Killers is a classic literary work. Its unique linguistic charm and vivid characters have attracted scholars from generation to generation to appreciate and study. This paper takes the main characters’ conversations in the classic short story as the research object. Through statistical and analytical study of the conversations violating the Cooperative Principle and the conversational implicature they produce, the research aims to reveal the characters’ personalities and show its profound themes, thus helping readers better understand and appreciate the short story and broadening the application of pragmatic theory in the field of literature.

The praise for the vigorous natural life is the theme of D. H. Lawrence’s poetry, Birds, Beasts and Flowers. Snake is one of the best poems in this collection of poems which shows an introspection of the relationship between human and nature. This paper aims to analyze the paradoxes and conflicts in Snake and arouse human’s attention to ecology. Many studies on Snake focus on ecological consciousness, the symbolic image of snake, sexual consciousness, religious consciousness and Lawrence’s natural value. However, a few studies pay attention to its ecological ethics, especially the paradoxes and conflicts in this poem. This paper intends to analyze the paradoxical image of snake in traditional concept and Lawrence’s writing, the paradoxical personalities of human in the modern society and the conflicts between anthropocentrism and naturalism. Lastly, this paper tries to give some suggestions to human based on ecological ethics.

This paper sheds light on war literature, defining it and highlighting its significance. It also underlines its selective nature as it can magnify, bedim, or even warp certain truths, depending on the perspective from which this literature is delivered. The paper also emphasizes the function of war literature in raising awareness as to the horrors of war and its aftermath as well as its function in promoting peace. Besides, it examines The Kite Runner in this respect. It shows how this novel succeeds in portraying the atrocities of war and its drastic effects long after this war ends. The paper observes how the novel synchronizes the political events with the personal ones in order to show that the war does not only affect those who are directly involved in it but extends to reach the innocent more severely. To underline the parallel between the political and personal events, Husseini employs the rape motif and balances the political turning points with the crucial events at the personal scale. The author also juxtaposes scenes that display the damages of the war with scenes that portray the blissful state before the inauguration of war in order to exhibit the grave impact of war and the irretrievability of this state. Husseini also presents the law of the jungle that becomes prominent during and after the war and exposes the detrimental destruction of the country sites – the destruction that effaces civilizations. The paper also proposes possible topics for future research.

Vocabulary learning is an indispensable part of English learning. In recent years, various Foreign Journal Reading Apps have sprung up and become prevalent in China. Accordingly, it has become a choice for many people to expand their vocabulary by learning foreign journals. Based on intensive reading of foreign journals, this paper focuses on the effect of audio auxiliary input mode on Incidental Vocabulary Acquisition of college students. Research shows: compared with single visual input, this input model is more helpful for the participants to acquire vocabulary knowledge in spelling, meaning and application, and improve the efficiency of incidental vocabulary acquisition.

This article aims firstly to put up the discursive modalities and speech acts that have a pragmatic value in the text of “The inaugural lesson” by Keba Mbaye. Secondly, it will be a question of analyzing and interpreting the pragmatic value of these speech acts that make successful the communication in terms of persuasion. Thus we will precise the environmental framework of the study. We will inventory and decipher the discursive function of these particular constituent elements of the speech and finally we will put in relation these discursive elements that make persuasive the arguments. The pragmatic approach of communication proposes techniques for the interpretation about what is explicitly or implicitly said and also about the presupposition, will help finding out and analyzing some speech acts from the organizational point of view of the speech. The first part deals with the problematics and offers a presentation of the framework. As for the second part, it focuses on the different discursive mechanisms pointed up by the speaker to accomplish his purpose which is at the same time convincing and persuading the hearers.
