Indonesian Language Education as an Agent of Social Change: Sociological and Religious Approaches

This study aims to explore the role of Indonesian language education as an agent of social change by adopting sociological and religious approaches. The research is conducted in Lombok Barat and Lombok Utara, Indonesia. The study employs a qualitative approach with a case study design. Data collection techniques involve in-depth interviews with educators, curriculum document analysis, and observation of the learning process. The collected data is analyzed using qualitative analysis techniques, including thematic and interpretative analysis. The results indicate that Indonesian language education holds significant potential as an agent of social change through the integration of sociological and religious approaches in the learning process. The sociological approach allows for a deeper understanding of the relationship between language, identity, and social structure, while the religious approach provides a strong moral and ethical foundation in shaping individual and societal character. The implications of this research underscore the need for further integration of sociological and religious approaches in the development of the Indonesian language curriculum to strengthen the role of education in facilitating positive and sustainable social change.

A Study of the Subtitle Translation of Coco from the Perspective of Skopos Theory

In the context of the continuous advancement of globalization, intercultural communication is increasingly frequent. Films, as an art form, play a crucial role in promoting cultural exchange. With skopos theory as the theoretical framework, this article analyzes the subtitle translation of the film Coco. Through the analysis of specific cases, it is observed that translators adhere to the skopos rule, the coherence rule and the fidelity rule of skopos theory during the subtitle translation of Coco, and effectively address the problem of differences between target language culture and source language culture by adopting translation methods and strategies such as free translation and domestication so as to facilitate effective movie-watching experience, foster communication, and achieve cross-cultural communication.

The Construction of Female Identity in Beloved from the Perspective of Post-Colonialism

Beloved is one of the historical trilogy by the African-American writer Toni Morrison. This paper interprets the process of the three black women's self-consciousness awakening and identity construction in Beloved from the perspective of post-colonialism by Homi K. Bhabha. Morrison depicts the painful revealing of the disremembered past of black people in Beloved. Through the depiction of Sethe as well as other ex-slaves, the novel expresses that only by confronting ghosts and rediscovering history can the characters be able to break down their constructed otherness, and embark on the obtaining of a subjective position.
As one of the famous female writers in the 19th century British, Jane Austen has left many popular works that embodies feminism, among which Mansfield Park wins universal praise of people from worldwide. The heroine, Fanny Price, is a self-effacing cousin cared for by the Bertram family in their country house. Fanny’s moral strength eventually wins her complete acceptance by the Bertram family and marriage to Edmund Bertram himself. The course of Fanny’s growing up, from accepting her living condition, sticking to her marriage belief to her revolt against the patriarchy, all indicates that she has turned into a woman with feminine consciousness. Through the analysis of the novel, the paper aims to arouse women’s awareness of their position in the society, and endeavor to pursue their independent personality.

Integrating “Telling China’s Story” Into Teaching Design of College English Curriculum from the Perspective of Outcome Based Education

Telling China’s story well is an effective way to enhance students’ English application ability and promote moral education. However, the insufficient integration of China’s story in current English textbook needs to be addressed. Based on the Outcome based education (OBE), this article aims to elaborate on teaching design and explore a blended learning model for integrating telling China’s story into college English courses.

Analysis of Politeness Strategies from the Perspective of the Interpersonal Function of Language in Systemic Functional Grammar

Politeness strategies play a crucial role in maintaining social harmony and establishing interpersonal relationships. The interpersonal function of language in Systemic Functional Grammar (SFG) provides a framework to analyze how language is used to interact with others. Our research aims to analyze the interpersonal functions of politeness strategies in conversation from the perspective of mood, modality, and person in SFG, with a focus on politeness theory, face theory, and politeness strategies. It shows how language is used to manage social relationships and establish social hierarchies in communication, and how understanding politeness strategies can help communicate more effectively and respectfully in different contexts.
