DOI: 10.36348/sijtcm.2024.v07i03.002
Performances across time have promoted human wellness, especially as we continue to incorporate the lived experiences of healing rituals into our contemporary artistic practices. Audience members practice good physical, emotional, social, and psychological health through their ability to create an illusion of mental escape, enlightenment, and entertainment. The paper comments on a specific shamanistic practice – “Ifa Ritual,” practiced by the African diaspora of the Americas as a metric for evaluation. I shall explore documented research on the performance expressions noticeable in the Yoruba Ifa ritual exemplary in the Santeria and their communal benefits to Afro-Cubans in the USA. The Afro-Cuban Yorubas called Lucumi are believed to have migrated as slaves from the Yoruba subgroups of Africa to the New World, and there they introduced a cultural practice called the Santeria. The Santeria is an attempt to decolonize the impact of Western religious ideologies on their spiritual and social life by performing Ifa rites as a mode of worship and healing. I interrogate how the performative styles and elements of “Ifa” including the divination techniques contribute to promoting the well-being of contemporary Ifa practitioners. Theoretically, the study considers rituals as a fundamental approach to performance and wellness that seeks to reinforce and provoke discourses in post-humanism. The scope of this study is confined to the branch of humanities and soft sciences devoted to prevalent research on the Yoruba belief system and Lucumi Santeria, aiding the discussion of "Ifa" as a post-humanist construct of performance and wellness.

Communities in Africa in the pre-colonial days lived with one another in a just and equitable manner, in love, on the principles of ubuntu. The way of life was further sustained by the communities’ perception and equation of the land with humanity, where everyone had equal access to the land as factor of production. The communal system which assured of equal treatment of everyone suffered a set-back, through centuries of slave trading and the colonization and the eventual imposition of western laws on indigenous peoples of Africa, these transformed the indigenous communities from their classlessness into stratified un-equal societies of those who have and those who do not have. Corruption evolves as a result of private property ownership and this further compounds in-equality, such that communal properties are unfairly taken over by few individuals, under non-transparent privatisation of public utilities. Access to factors of production and to justice in the post-colonial Africa is a myth on account of technicality and cost. The prospect of sustaining the pre-colonial equitable access to factors of production and to justice through oral tradition suffers a setback on account of the loss of cultural archives like the African traditional religion and the indigenous languages.

Coenzyme Q10 (CoQ10 or Co_Q10) as a known endogenous compound has been linked to some therapeutic functions, thus, the need for further exploration in more dysfunctional biological scenarios. This present study, thus, evaluated the stabilizing attributes of Co-enzyme Q10 supplementation in thioacetamide (TAA) altered immuno-haematological system in Wistar rats. One hundred and twenty (120) male Wistar rats weighing 250 and 280g were used for the study and were randomly separated into four sub-groups of 30 rats per treatment interval of week 3, 6, 9 and 12. In the individual weeks, the rats were further grouped into six different groups of five rats each. The groups included Group 1-control and received 1ml of normal saline (intraperitoneally―ip), Group 2 received only 200 mg/kg TAA (ip) twice weekly, Group 3 received 5mg/kg Co_Q10, daily per oral (po), Group 4 received 10mg/kg Co_Q10 daily (po), Group 5 received 200 mg/kg TAA (ip) twice weekly and 5mg/kg Co_Q10 (po) daily and Group 6 received 200 mg/kg TAA (ip) twice weekly and 10mg/kg Co_Q10 (po) daily. After weeks 3, 6, 9 and 12 of treatments, blood samples were collected and instantly transferred into well labeled blood sample bottles with anticoagulant. After appropriate laboratory and statistical analyses, the quantitative results were obtained. The result showed that following TAA toxicity, the levels of white blood cells (WBC) were significantly (P<0.05) reduced; meanwhile, those of macrophage and tissue necrotic factor alpha (TNFα) were remarkably (P<0.05) increased. However, upon the supplementations with Co-Q10 in the respective weeks (3, 6, 9 and 12) of treatment, all the aforementioned deranged values of WBC, macrophages and TNFα were significantly (P<0.05) stabilized/normalized (i.e. brought to similar range of the normal untreated rats). Therefore, Co-Q10 supplementation may be of beneficial therapeutic value in particular haematological dysfunctional scenarios.

Introduction: This COVID-19 pandemic represents a major challenge for ensuring continuity of care during a health crisis and raises questions about the risks incurred in the event of chronic illness (es). Among these, diabetes affects more than half a million people in Belgium, one in five of whom is over 65 years old. This study aims to understand the opinions of patients suffering from diabetes on the difficulties of their care during the covid19 pandemic. Methods: This is a qualifying phenomenological study, it is exploratory descriptive. It falls within the field of public health. The target population consisted of patients suffering from diabetes and who receive care either on an outpatient basis or in hospitalization at the diabetology department of the General Provincial Reference Hospital of Kinshasa, the number of which is nine diabetics. She used the phenomenological inquiry method and the face-to-face semi-structured interview technique. Results: After analyzing the collected data, we found the following results: diabetics were treated by home care, by telephone contact following the instructions of the diabetologist, but also by self-care. The difficulties encountered by diabetics are linked to the freedom to freely engage in physical exercises and other activities and those to contact with the healthcare team; and these difficulties encountered have generated a psychological discomfort. In terms of expectations, diabetics want caregivers to grant them a certain framework of freedom and to computerize the care system (telemedicine or telenursing). Conclusion: Considering these results, we strongly suggest that all health facilities that care for diabetics implement telemedicine and/or telenursing in the care of diabetics during periods such as the pandemic.

The SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus was the initial cause of the worldwide epidemic of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), which started in March of 2020. Patients with coronavirus disease (COVID-19) may have elevated C-reactive protein (CRP) and fibronectin levels owing to the inflammatory response caused by the virus. Nonetheless, the available data imply that infection with COVID-19 affects lipid profile and leads to dyslipidemia. Seventy samples were collected from the Sanitary Isolation Unit of Medical City Hospital in Kirkuk Governorate for this study. Forty of them were taken from SARS-COV2 patients, whereas the other thirty were from healthy individuals. The ages of the two groups ranged between (30-65) years. When a real-time polymerase chain reaction (PCR) tested positive, patients had blood collected to check for other biochemical and inflammatory markers. Fibronectin, C-reactive protein, and d-dimer were some of the indicators checked. The patients' blood was also analyzed for lipids such as total cholesterol (T.C), triacylglyceride (TG), Low-Density Lipoprotein Cholesterol, and High-Density Lipoprotein Cholesterol (HDL-C). In this study, researchers discovered abnormally high concentrations of CRP, D-dimer, fibronectin, triglycerides, LDL-C, and VLDL. The patients also had considerably lower levels of T.C and HDL-C compared to the controls.

CRISPR-associated (Cas) genes are responsible for detecting abnormally identified repeats. The CRISPR array spacers assist the Cas protein in locating and removing the intrusive DNA by using protospacers. The manipulation of matter at the atomic and molecular scale to create materials with incredibly diverse and unique properties is known as nanotechnology. Carbon nanotubes (CNTs) and fullerenes are the two primary types of carbon-based NPs. Fullerenes contain allotropic forms of carbon and other nanomaterials made of globular hollow cages. NPs of the alkali and noble metals, such as Cu, Ag, and Au, occupy a sizable absorption band in the visible portion of the solar electromagnetic spectrum. Cutting-edge materials of today rely on the manufacturing of metal nanoparticles with precise size, shape, and aspect ratios. Nanomaterials are added to cement to act as binding agents. These nanoparticles enhance the chemical and physical properties of strength, durability, and workability for the long-term potential of the construction sector. These materials are potentially valuable in a range of situations due to their fascinating and adjustable electrical, chemical, and physical properties.

Meckel's diverticulitis or meckelitis is the infection of the Meckel's diverticulum. The aim of this work was to study the epidemiological, diagnostic, therapeutic and evolutionary aspects in the pediatric surgery department of the Nianankoro FOMBA hospital in Ségou, Mali. This was a retrospective study concerning observations between July 2010 and June 2012. We reported 5 observations in 2 years, representing a frequency of 2.5 cases per year. The average age was 6.6 years and the sex ratio was 1.5. Diagnostically, abdominal pain was the main reason for consultation followed by fever and vomiting. Physical examination found in all cases abdominal pain more or less associated with guarding in the right iliac fossa and peri-umbilical area. Abdominal bloating and contracture were noted in one case. There was hyperleukocytosis in all our 5 observations. The diagnosis was an operative discovery in 4 cases. Ultrasound was contributory in one case. Therapeutically, segmental resection of the small intestine removing the diverticulum, followed by immediate end-to-end anastomosis of the small intestine was the only technique performed in all our patients. The postoperative course was simple in 4 cases. A wall abscess with a favorable outcome was noted. Histological examination confirmed meckelitis at different stages (inflammatory, abscessed, gangrenous or necrotic). Gastric heterotopia was noted in one observation.

Posthumanism and Darwin in Dialogue: The Evolution of a Contemporary Conceptualization of Theatre and Performance
Damian Enyaosah

DOI: 10.36348/sjhss.2024.v09i03.002
Over the years, there has been a turn in the academy that is adopted as the postmodern era which encompasses the posthumanist, and a shift within it to new materialist, and affect theories. Human-dominant influence over natural elements such as flora and fauna, non-human animals, material, and immaterial objects is subjected to a radical shift. The innovative understanding of science and technology plays a crucial role in this current wave. Posthumanist thought comes in contact with a human-centered society, however, proposing a decentralized approach to the way humans perceive themselves in the environment. The politics at play here is not anti-humanist but a revisiting and acknowledgment of the environmental entities that make up the human space. Therefore, this paper takes an expository inquiry, querying if the knowledge of Darwin’s evolutionary theory can be applied to the understanding of artistic performance through a posthumanist approach. Also, does posthumanism and the evolution of contemporary performance have what it takes to affect and effect the desired modification, granting agency not only to the human animals but to other non-human entities? Hence, humans must learn to coexist in the ecological space sharing power amongst things, plants, non-human animals, objects, and other forms of technological creations. Methodologically, the online library sources provide primary data for this research with a selection of works by three posthumanist performers to be analyzed. This research is pivotal to the artistic application of biology and technology, as tools in solving contemporary performance-related issues amongst humans, the organic and inorganic matter.
