10.21276/sjhss.2018.3.10.4
The paper dwells on the concept of Barakah (blessing) reiterating its origin
and the position of the Prophet as the most blessed of all the creations. The concept of
Barakah as explored in the paper belongs to Allah who allots it to His creatures
according to His will and mercy. The paper focuses mainly on how the companions of
the Prophet acquired the Barakah of the Prophet. Reference is made to authentic
Prophetic traditions on how the companions of the Prophet yearned for the blessing in
his hair and in the fragrance of his sweat. The companions had also contested for leftover water of his ablution in order to gain Barakah. It is in the light of this that that the
paper discusses the emphasis of the Glorious Qur’an and the Sunnah on the relevance
of the barakah of the Prophet in averting the wrath of Allah as well as the effect of the
blessings of the Prophet on food and water. As states in the paper, strict compliance
with the teachings of the Prophet accorded the companions of the Prophet his blessings.
The paper recommends to the Muslims the need to believe that the Prophet is a mercy
to mankind and his blessing could be acquired through invocation of blessing on him
and compliance with his teachings.

Part-time students are distracted by too many competing demands on their
time because of work or family commitments. As a result they are not as involved as
other students. This is problematic because what students gain from their college
experience depends a lot on how much time and effort students put into their
educationally purposeful activities. This study sought to find out challenges
encountered by part-time students in selected public universities in Kenya. The study
was based on student engagement theory. Data was collected from part-time students,
games tutors, deans of students, officials of clubs and societies. Simple random
sampling was used to select students while purposeful sampling was used to select
games tutors, deans of students and officials of clubs and societies. Data was collected
using questionnaires, focus group discussions and interview schedules. The analysis of
the qualitative data followed the path of aggregating the words or images into
categories of information and presented the diversity of ideas gathered during data
collection. The study established that majority of the part-time students lacked time to
participate in social activities in the universities. They spent most of their time
travelling or looking for means of transport. The study further established that part-time
students lacked information on the social activities in the university that they could
participate in. It is hoped that the findings of the study will be useful to university
management in understanding the part-time students’ social needs and satisfaction
predictors so as to keep part-time students more engaged with their academic work and
perform well in their examinations.

10.21276/sjhss.2018.3.10.2
It is believed that Walter Benjamin‟s theory is the combination with
theology and Marxism. His Messianic thought especially expressed the idea of
redemption which was the critique of the industrial progress. He was trying to criticize
the consumer economy which was full of powers and desires. At the same time, he
believed that Messiah is from the secular world and was trying to revert it to the
original world. Rita Hayworth and the Shawshank Redemption was a representative
work of expressing redemption. It not only redeemed himself but also helped other
people get redemption. This paper interprets the book of Rita Hayworth and the
Shawshank Redemption from the perspective of Benjamin‟s Messianisim. The first part
is the introduction of the book and Benjamin‟s Messianic thought. The second part is
the interpretations of the three protagonists: Andy, Red and Tommy. This part
illustrates the reflections of Messianic redemption thought in these three persons and
the Shawshank Prison. All of them wanted to revert back the original life and freedom.
The third part is about how to accelerate the coming of Messiah: the pursuit of secular
happiness and the death of tragic hero. The fourth part is the coming of Messiah and
getting redemption.

HIV/AIDS is a viral malady which is causing havoc with the lives of the
people in the Punjab Province of Pakistan. It has become notorious in taking away the
lives of the people due to the lack of awareness on the part of the victims. The chief
sources of the mass prevalence of this disease are: contaminated water, reuse of needles
and syringes, carelessness about blood transfusion, lack of awareness about the use of
contraceptives while having sex, and non-sterilized shaving and surgical instruments.
District Faisalabad, from the central Punjab (Pakistan) was the place where this present
research study was conducted. Throughout the course of this research study, multistage
sampling technique was widely employed. At first stage, out of four tehsils of district
Faisalabad, one tehsil (tehsil Faisalabad) was selected randomly. At second stage, out
of eight towns of tehsil Faisalabad, two towns (Jinnah Town and Iqbal Town) were
selected randomly. At third stage, two union councils were randomly selected from
each town. At fourth stage, a sample of 25 young people was drawn from each selected
union council to make an overall sample of 200 respondents. An interview schedule
was developed for data collection which was divided into two parts. Individual
characteristics i.e. gender, age, conjugal status was included in the preliminary part of
the questionnaire. The questions related to the awareness regarding HIV/AIDS were the
part and parcel of the remaining part of the questionnaire. The major findings of this
study are: majority of the respondents 68.0 % were males, 56.0 % of the informants
were intermediate, 48.5% were disclosed during interview that they had adequate
knowledge about the preventive methods of HIV/AIDS after blood test or blood
transfusion, 30% respondents had no knowledge about the preventive methods of
HIV/AIDS after blood test or blood transfusion, 76.0 % were un-married, and 42.5 %
were of the view that their source of sexual health information was their friends.
HIV/AIDS, no doubt, is a fatal malady but can be controlled by launching awareness
campaigns via mass media informing people about the preventive measures such as
insisting on new syringe during inoculation, secure and safe blood transfusion,
abstaining from extra-marital activities, avoiding contaminated water, and refraining
from using the razor, tooth brush, and towel of an infected person.

10.21276/sjhss.2018.3.10.6
This paper examines the History of Manyani Detention Camp from 1952 to
1963. From 1952 onwards, the British government established detention camps where
suspected Mau Mau fighters and their sympathizers were incarcerated. Manyani was
started as a holding camp for “hard core” Mau Mau fighters. Manyani held Mau Mau
fighters from 1952 to 1963. The colonial government preferred Manyani detention
camp because of its harsh environment that was expected to exert maximum physical
torture on the detainees so that they could plead guilty and assist in ending the Mau
Mau uprising. The paper shows Manyani detention camps as an institution of political
domination and control during the state Emergency in Kenya. The paper is a
contribution to the historiography of prisons in Kenya.

Indonesia is one of the countries with a large number of corruption cases.
Criminal acts of corruption in Indonesia have been pervasive and have entered into all
walks of life. Its development continues to increase from year to year, in the number of
cases that occur and the amount of state financial losses and regarding the quality of
criminal acts of corruption carried out more systematically that has entered aspects of
community life. Increased uncontrolled corruption will bring impacts that are not only
limited to the life of the national economy but also to the life of the nation and state in
general. This study uses a normative and empirical juridical approach. Normative
research is carried out on the theoretical matters of legal principles relating to law
enforcement in the case of corruption in Indonesia. This research method uses several
approaches to produce a reasonable conclusion. The strategy of prosecuting policies in
certain crimes must pay attention to the nature of the problem. If the nature of the
problem is more on economic or trade issues, it should take precedence over sanctions
for action and/or fines. The formulation of sanctions between Article 2 and Article 3 of
this Law is contrary to the general provisions concerning sanctions regulated in the
Criminal Code. In the Criminal Code determines if an act is carried out because of
position and violates the authority. It is a criminal weight, while in this law in Article 3
which is an act as stipulated in Article 2 but carried out by misusing the authority,
opportunity or means that exists because of the position or position but the threat is
lighter than in Article 2. If the special law makes a particular minimum criminal threat,
then it must be accompanied by rules/guidelines for its application such as comparative
problems between specific minimums and maximal in particular. There should be a
unique pattern that should be followed in other Article formulations. For example in
Article 2 paragraph (1) the comparison is 1: 4 while in Article 3 the comparison is 1:20.
There should be a similar pattern applied in each Article in the formulation of specific
minimum provisions.

Choice of science based careers by female students in Technical and
Vocational Education and Training (TVET) institutes and particularly Technical and
Training Institutes (TTIs) has attracted a lot of attention of education planners,
economists and administrators the world over. Female students choosing careers in
TVET science programmes are still few and especially in Siaya County, Kenya. The
study was based on social Cognitive. The study adopted descriptive survey design. The
research instruments were questionnaires the sample size was 316 female students
sampled using census method. Tools in the Statistical Package for Social Sciences
(SPSS) version 22 was used to analyze data. Frequencies, percentages and means were
computed. Inferential statistics such as regression coefficients, T-statistics, F-statistics,
correlation of coefficients shall were derived. Charts, graphs and tables were used to
present the findings. It was found out that there exists a negative and statistically
significant relationship between socio-cultural factors and female students‟ choice of
career in science TVET Programmes (r=-0.546**; p<0.01). The significance of this
study is that the findings could be used to come up with policies on how to increase the
number of female students choosing careers in TVET. This could guarantee
employment opportunities for women in the country which in turn could raise their
standard of living.

This study explored Nigeria and South Africa relation within the context of
citizen diplomacy. We collated our date from qualitative descriptive method and hence
relied on secondary data. We predicated our analytical framework on the basic
propositions emanated from the theory of complex interdependent. The study among
others, observed that with economic advantage as the major international political
issues, states and their citizens are under anxiety not to be outwitted and outcompeted
in the fast growing global interdependence and thus subscribe to the rule of reciprocal
relations as foundation for cooperation. The study therefore underscored the effect of
diaspora in national economic development within the rubric of international rule of
reciprocity; while observing the checks of domestic values and culture of host states.
Focusing on Nigeria‘s diaspora defence in South Africa, the study explored the basic
factors that determine Nigeria-South Africa relations especially as it concerns the
contributions of the Diaspora to national development through the application of
international best practice and social relations, it equally made useful suggestions
aimed at strengthening the capacity of Nigeria to achieve the foreign policy goals and
to provide adequate safeguards to her citizens living in foreign countries.

The purposes of this research were to investigate the implementation of
screencast o matic integrated with inquiry learning for improving students’soft skill
which focused on developing students’ self-confidence in speaking English and to
investigate the interaction occured among variables. Quantitative research method was
used with true experimental design in order to achieve the aims of the research.
Semester IV students of English Department of Muslim Nusantara Al-Washliyah
University were chosen as the sample of the research and divided into 30 students for
experimental class I and 30 students for experiment class II. The data found was
anlayzed by applying ANAVA (General Linear Models), normality test (one sample
Kolmogorov Smirnov) and homogeneity test (One way Anova) with SPSS 22 IBM
for Windows and MS. Excel in order to explore score obtained from each formulated
indicator. The finding showed that the implementation of screencast o matic using
inquiry learning significantly develops students’ self-confidence, eventhough there
was no interaction occured between students’ self confidence and speaking with Sig>
0.05. The obtained data showed that developing self-confindence through screencast o
matic integrated with inquiry learning with Sig > 0,05 (0,776 > 0,05). In short, the
students’ speaking skill taught with screencast o matic sofware was higher, but
students’ self-confidence was not developed by that software as students were a bit
hard to adapt using screencast o matic software that never be used by them in
advance.

This study aims to analyze the accountability process of the performance of
government officials in the service of electronic Resident Identity Card (e-KTP) in
Bantaeng Regency and analyze aspects that affect the accountability of the
performance of government officials in the service of E-KTP in Bantaeng Regency.
This research was carried out in Bantaeng Regency using qualitative approach, which
is a method that has several theoretical perspectives with the type of case study. The
research shows that the accountability of the performance of local government
apparatus in e-KTP service at the Bantaeng Regency Population and Civil
Registration Service still needs to be improved if it refers to several accountability
indicators namely legal accountability and honesty, process accountability, program
accountability, and policy accountability of the four indicators, indicators of local
government must be able to improve the quality of the performance of the apparatus,
especially from aspects of the process and program, although on the other hand there
are some obstacles to the apparatus in carrying out their duties, functions and
authority from these indicators. Indicators of legal accountability and honesty as well
as policy accountability have run quite well, but these advantages must always be
maintained in order to provide maximum service to the people of Bantaeng Regency.
