This paper reviews the weekend effect on stock market returns. The
weekend effect anomaly is contrary to the theory of market efficiency. This anomaly
is appealing to be examined because the presence of weekend effect can be useful as
a trading strategy that can gain profits for investors. Investors could buy stocks on
days with abnormally low returns and sell stocks on days with abnormally high
returns.

The objective of this study was to examine the relationship between
social intelligence and change leadership behaviors. Seventy-six managers of five
listed firms in Thailand were gathered for data collection through the modified
version of TromsØ social intelligence scale and a newly developed scale of change
leadership. Using stepwise regression analysis, results of this study revealed that
social information processing explained 22% of variance (R2 = .222, F (1, 76) =
21.106, p < .001), which demonstrated a significantly positive relationship between
social information processing and change leadership (β = .471, p <.001). This can be
concluded that the more managers had social information processing characteristic,
the more likely they would demonstrate their change leadership behaviors.
Discussion, limitations, and recommendations for further studies were also
discussed.

which is approved by All India Council of Technical Education (AICTE). This
study also aims to evaluate the relationship between demographic variables of
faculty and staying intentions of teaching faculty. Data in this empirical and

Dilesha Nawadali Rathnayake, Gang Sun, Ning Ding
Page no 1015-1025 |
10.21276/sjbms.2017.2.11.9
This study examines the macroeconomic factors which are affecting to
real effective exchange rates (REER) from selected ten countries in Asia. Two panel
regression approaches namely fully modified ordinary least squares (FMOLS),
dynamic ordinary least squares (DOLS) and fixed effects are applied using panel
data over the period 2002–2016. Empirical results show that presence of a
significant long-term association amongst the REER and seven macroeconomic
determents namely interest rate, inflation, trade balance, terms of trade, trade
openness, foreign reserves and share price index and their significance are
remaining same in all models applied. However, trade balance has a positive
connection with the REER while other significant variables have a negative
association with the REER in long run. Moreover, the money supply (M2) and real
gross domestic production (GDP) do not show a significant relationship with the
REER.

A Glance on Shariah Basis of Takaful (Islamic Insurance)

Page no 1026-1030 |
10.21276/sjbms.2017.2.11.10
This is a doctrinal research on the Shariah basis of takaful (Islamic
Insurance). The research reveals that that takaful has basis in ancient Arabia in the
system of “Aqilah” which involves mutual assistance. It can also be traced down in
the Sunnah of the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah upon him) and also
his companions. Moreover, a study of the primary sources for Muslims (i.e. the
Qur‟an and the Sunnah), indicates that members of the first Islamic community
effectively applied systems of cooperative risk sharing, long before the beginning
of takaful practices. Additionally, in takaful, contributions (premiums) are paid on
donation (tabarru) basis, thus the element of gharar is totally avoided. Again,
takaful is based on various transactions accepted by the Shariah. Essentially, the
contemporary Islamic scholars mentioned that Mudarabah or wakalah or waqf or a
combination of the three models is the most appropriate Islamic contracts which
should be employed in managing takaful business. Furthermore, Islam does not
prohibit accepting a good opinion from others, if it proves to be beneficial.
Moreover, takaful shares same philosophy with insurance which is mutual
cooperation between members for the sake of mutual cooperation and protection.
The idea has been realized from the understanding of how Allah wants Muslims to
cooperate in achieving the Ummah‟s interest. Takaful is an example of how
Islamic Shariah can help to improve welfare of the Ummah and create new socioeconomic mechanism based on equity, justice and fair play.
