Targeting the discourse of domination that rests on the binary opposites of power relations, ecofeminism addresses the
destructive patriarchal practices. This movement brings into light the striking analogy that exists between such practices
against women and against nature. The discourse is often translated in terms of manipulation, abuse, mistreatment, and
subjugation with all the suppression and oppression that these practices entail. Hawthorne’s “Rappaccini’s Daughter”
pleads an ecofeminist approach in terms of three aspects. First, it represents the two parties addressed in ecofeminist
movements: on one hand there is the patriarchal oppressor embodied in Rappaccini and the two other male figures in the
story, and, on the other hand, there is the oppressed, namely Beatrice and the garden. Secondly, it strikes a characteristic
affinity between the maltreated female and the abused garden. Thirdly, it delineates the power relations represented as
dichotomous binary opposites that each of the afore mentioned parties respectively represents.

As the National Book Award winner of America in 2013, The Good Lord Bird plays an important role in depicting the
inner world of ordinary people, especially slaves. The young slave narrator, Henry Shackleford recreates John Brown's
raids on Harpers Ferry on the eve of the American Civil War. His role changes and choices in his life reflect the identical
dilemma and awakening of the black slaves in that era. Based on Ethical Literary Criticism, this paper displays Henry’s
identical dilemma in The Good Lord Bird from two aspects of gender dilemma and social dilemma. It explores reasons
for Henry’s dual identical dilemmas and the ethical choices, which is to be a girl in bondage or a boy in freedom.
Therefore, this paper reveals the inefficiency and blindness of the black slave's ethical choices in the context of slavery,
representing the loneliness and alienation faced by the black slaves on the eve of American Civil War. It awakens people
to recognize the hypocrisy and evilness of Slavery, and makes human beings re-examine history, giving important
enlightenment to American racial issues.

should be done without changing the intended purpose of the source text. It is generally accepted that translation students
often produce an inadequate translation in the process of translation training at university. Students tend to translate word
for word or often mistranslate a source text meaning into the target text. This study aims to investigate the factors that
influence the quality of translation, particularly in translating academic essay. The data of this study were obtained by the
