This paper aims to study women’s realities and conditions through motherhood realities in Linda Pastan’s poem entitled “Marks”. Indeed thanks to the microcosm of a familial and motherhood reality, the poet Linda Pastan sheds light in general to the macrocosm of familial and motherhood reality in the whole society and further to the macrocosm of women’s realities and conditions in the society. It is like a cry from the heart of a woman which calls for anyone attention about women’s conditions and sufferings in family, in society, and further in the world. In fact, thanks to an ironic style she depicts the daily life of a mother in her own family showing the difficulties she encounters by explaining the household sufferings. This ironic depiction is indeed a kind of metaphor to denounce the ingratitude or ungratefulness on the part of the other members of the family (husband, son and daughter). When transcending the familial context described by Linda Pastan, we observe obviously that this poem is topical about women’s realities and conditions, and also that the problem of women’s conditions and sufferings is universal and a world concern. On the basis of this simple but true reality and in a thorough analysis following sociocriticism, a psychoanalytic criticism, a feminism perspective and stylistics, we will study on the one hand, motherhood realities and women’s conditions and sufferings and on the other hand, we will analyze family or people or society ingratitude toward women and the need for women recognition and emancipation.

Anxiety in communicating in a second language, especially when that language is English, can have a negative effect to the students’ educational goals. A person feels nervous, worried and fearful when anxious. It is a permanent trait, and people are expected to experience it (Woodrow, 2006). Hence, the goal of this study was to investigate the relationship of English language anxiety and academic achievement. One hundred eighty randomly selected senior high school students of St. Mary’s Academy of Hagonoy participated in this study. A test called Foreign Language Classroom Anxiety Scale (FLCAS) was used to measure the English language anxiety. On the other hand, a copy of the General Weighted Average (GWA) of the students was requested from the school to assess their academic achievement. The results of the study showed that fear of negative evaluation and test anxiety are the main causes of anxiety of the senior high school respondents. Eighty-four percent of the respondents had medium level of anxiety and forty-nine percent had outstanding academic achievement. To determine the relationship of the two variables, a regression analysis was employed using the Statistical Packages for Social Sciences (SPSS). The result revealed that English language anxiety exerted no significant effect on the students’ academic achievement. Finally, some interventions and strategies were suggested by the researcher to reduce or eliminate English language anxiety in the classroom.
The ultimate goal of this paper is to provide an in-depth analysis of the frequency of do you have and have you got within the Corpus of Contemporary American English (COCA), the British National Corpus (BNC), and the Corpus of Historical American English (COHA). The COCA clearly indicates that do you have is preferred over have you got by Americans. With respect to the genre frequency of the COCA, it is worth pointing out that in the TV/movie genre, the type do you have is the most widely used one. Likewise, in the TV/movie genre, the type have you got is the most commonly used one. The BNC shows, on the other hand, that have you got is preferred over do you have by British people. This clearly indicates that the type have you got is the most preferable one for British people in the spoken genre. Additionally, the COCA clearly shows that the collocation do you have children is the most preferred by Americans, followed by do you have time, do you have kids, do you have plans, do you have evidence, do you have family, do you have trouble, and do you have access, in that order. The COCA also shows that the collocation have you got time is the most preferable one for Americans, followed by have you got money, have you got room, and have you got plans, in that order. With regard to the collocation of nouns along with do you have in the BNC, it is important to note that do you have children is the most preferable one for British people, followed by do you have sugar (do you have milk, do you have problems), and do you have faith, in that order. In addition, it is significant to note that the collocation do you have children is the most preferable one for both Americans and British people. With respect to the collocation of have you got and nouns in the BNC, it is noteworthy that have you got time is the most preferred by British people, followed by have you got proof (have you got money), and have you got daddy (have you got potatoes, have you got news). Accordingly, the collocation have you got time is the most preferable one for both Americans and British people. When it comes to the COHA, it is worthwhile noting that do you have reached a peak (1,332 tokens) in 2010. This indicates that it was the most preferable type for Americans. It is significant to note, on the other hand, that have you got had the highest frequency (462 tokens) in 1930. From this, it is clear that have you got was the most preferred by Americans.

Media Language and its Plural Semiotics: Representation of the Figure of “Xuxa Meneghel” in Chilean Publicity
Bruno Gomes Pereira

This article aims to analyze, based on the principles of Applied Linguistics (AL), the media representation in the face of the return of the presenter Xuxa to the Chilean advertising market, through a commercial for a mobile phone brand. In the neighboring country, Xuxa's return caused a resounding success, gaining worldwide repercussion, even surpassing the golden times of the children's songs of that artist. The Theoretical Foundation finds interdisciplinarity among different currents of discursive language studies its main reference for microanalysis. The methodology is of a qualitative and documentary approach. The data reveal a mediatic return marked by the ideology of an artist wrapped in an unattainable affective memory, which also guarantees her wide commercial receptivity in other countries of the world.
