Introduction: Anaemia in pregnancy remains one of the most intractable public health problems in the developing countries. World Health Organization has estimated that more than half of the pregnant women in the world are anemic. Anaemia during pregnancy is associated with adverse infant outcomes, including low birth weight, preterm delivery and perinatal mortality, and it may also be associated with childhood intellectual disability. Objective: To estimate the prevalence of anaemia in primigravida, classify the severity of anaemia in different age groups. Material & Methods: It is a cross sectional study. Haemoglobin of 187 primigravida subjects in a tertiary hospital was estimated. The subjects were divided into age groups, below 20 years, 20- 25 years and more than 25 years. The mean and standard deviations of haemoglobin in different age groups were calculated. Observation & Results: Out of 187 primigavida pregnant women 91.1% below 20 years, 77.77% from 20-25 years and 36.58 % of more than 25 years were anaemic. Their mean Hb was 9.89gms /100 ml, 9.9gms / 100 ml and 11.1gms / 100ml respectively.

The Study of Assessment of Gestational Age from Fetal Femur Length by Ultrasonography in Western Maharashtra

Gestational age determination by ultrasonography is very much essential as it gives accurate estimation. The objective of prsent work is to study the role of ultrasonography for estimation of gestational age and to assess of gestational age by ultrasonographic measurement of femur length. The study was carried out in the Department of Anatomy and in the Department of Radiodiagnosis at R.C.S.M.Government Medical College, Kolhapur, Maharashtra. This prospective cross sectional study consists of 150 normal antenatal women. The fetuses of singleton pregnancy with the physical evidence of normal growth without gross structural abnormalities with the gestational age ranging from18-40 weeks were included. The fetal femur length was measured by ulrasonography. The mean values of femur length in cm. along with respective standered deviation (sd) were computed for each gestaional age from 18-40 weeks.The correlation and regression analysis has been carried out to quantify the relationship between gestational age in weeks and femur length in cm. The femur length goes on increasing from 18 weeks to 40 weeks. The diphyseal length of femur is directly related to the gestational age. The simple linear regression equation derived for the calculation of gestational age using diphyseal length of femur. The relationship between the diphyseal length of femur and the gestaional age is linear and direct.Measurements of diphyseal lengths of femur can be an important parameter for estimating gestational age from 18-40 weeks of gestation.

Association of Class Attendance and Academic Performance of MBBS Students in Anatomy

Objectives: Student’s absenteeism is a continuous problem in medical education despite mandatory attendance policies introduced by universities. Medical education demands high attendance for good understanding and grasps over the subject. The objective of present study is to assess the strength of association between class attendance percentage and marks obtained in internal examination of Anatomy subject. Methods: Retrospective observational studies of first MBBS students who have passed Anatomy examination in 2017 and 2018 (150 students in each batch) were included and their attendance as well as marks of internal examination of both theory and practical were retrieved and correlated. Statistical analysis was carried out to find the strength of association between attendance and internal marks. Results: The findings in present study suggest a positive improvement in mean marks obtained in both theory and practical exam as percentage of attendance increases. Conclusion: The findings of present study support the evidence that there is a significant correlation between attendance percentages their academic performance in theory and practical.
